Good news for SQ is paying $1.20 for every share you own. The share price at today's closing is $14.18. If you happened to own say 10,000 SIA shares you would receive $12,000 when it starts paying its shareholders on 18 August 2011. Remember to buy the shares before it ex CD in the first few days of August. I don't know the exact date but check it out with your broker.
I say man, where got such a good and generous company right? SIA is the bestest!

SQ New Budget Airline

Good to hear SIA is going to start a new long haul budget airline from next year (2012). This would mean great opportunity for the cabin crew wannabes. Salary wised it's still not disclosed yet but my guess is it won't be much lesser or different from the current SIA cabin crew's.

SIA does not want to retrench it's beloved staff inspite of losing 300 millions last quarter.SIA merely asked them to go for the golden handshake which most can get 25 months of their last drawn salary. Where in the world got such a generous and kind establishment?
Me very confident SIA is going to make profit in the present quarter. I simply adore SIA because of it's staff welfare. Long live SIA!

How not to admire SIA for not let going even one staff at this time of global financial meltdown? Big companies all the world over have retrenched workers by the thousands but not my precious SIA.One even had it's CEO felt so guilty about retrenching its staff that he is now paying with his health. Mind you that company does not even lose any money!!!

SIA asking pilots to take no pay leave

What a brilliant move by my favourite airlines! That's right Singapore Airlines for asking the freighter pilots to go on no pay leave for a couple of months. SIA has lost up to $72 million for the last quarter in cargo section but is quick to take remdial action. SIA should retrenched all the deadwoods. Well done SIA, I love you!

Our flight from Cairo to Singapore finally left around 2:30 A.M. the nice thing is, Singapore Airlines is the best airline ever! we got on board and they offer you beer, wine, or juice for free, the meals are actually good, unlimited free snacks, unlimited free alcohol (i had wine with dinner), and all of it tastes good. they had like 80 movies to choose from you could watch whenever you wanted with your personal remote, TV shows, video games, and more, it was awesome! i had dinner at 3:00 A.M., watched half of Stardust which isn't even out on DVD yet, and went to sleep.

in the morning i played Super Mario Brothers. our flight was almost 10 hours but Singapore is 6 hours ahead of Cairo so we got in about 4:00 P.M. at baggage we didn't get our big bags because we had a connecting flight 18 hours later so with only our carry bags (no clothes, toiletries, etc.) we found our driver and he took us to our hotel. we flew into Terminal 3, which is brand new and it is the nicest, prettiest, airport ever, absolutely gorgeous with trees and waterfalls all around you like you are in a rainforest, free food, and free internet access as well.

we were going to explore Singapore a little and maybe do some shopping since it is supposed to be good here but it was pouring down rain (tropical storm like with the biggest rain drops i have ever seen), some streets were flooded, we were tired (didn't sleep great on the plane), and we didn't have dry clothes to change into se we got to our hotel, Fragrance Ruby, around 7:00 P.M., watched an episode of Ugly Betty, and went to bed. (we didn't sleep great because it is so humid in Singapore inside and outside but at least we had A.C.) our driver picked us up at 5:45 A.M. so we had to get up at 5:15 so we could go to the United Airlines counter and change our flights since i am going home a little earlier than previously planned and Taylore is not going to Fiji since the military there took it over and it is a military state right now and not safe for travelers. after changing our flights successfully, we grabbed some breakfast and our almost 10 hour flight to Auckland left around 9:00 A.M.

during the flight i finished Stardust, watched I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry (very funny), the pilot episode of Ugly Betty, Hairspray (it isn't even out on DVD yet), played some more Super Mario Brother, The Invasion with Nicole Kidman and Daniel Craig (really good), and some of Bourne Supremacy, plus more good food and wine. the flight went by so fast it was great, i wish all airlines were like this. Auckland is 6 hours ahead of Singapore so we landed about 11:30 P.M. and Taylore's cousin Ashley's fiancé Neil picked us up since Ashley is down in Christchurch till Friday night. Neil is really nice and so funny. he works for Sony Pictures and previews movies before they are out in theaters or released on DVD in New Zealand so he has tons of movies for free. we got to their house a little after midnight but since we had gone forward 12 hours in the last 2 days it felt like noon to us which was a weird feeling. we were still pretty tired from all the traveling and went too bed around 3:30 A.M. i am so glad to finally be in New Zealand safely.

Singapore Airlines On Top Of Zagat 2008 Airline Survey

Singapore Airlines has been voted the best international airline in terms of economy and premium classes, in the North American based Zagat 2008 Airlines Survey.
The annual survey this year saw 9,950 participants in the study, which continued to show a high level of customer dissatisfaction, especially in areas of delays and cancellations.
“The airline industry continues to be plagued with delays, cancellations and consumer dissatisfaction,” said Tim Zagat, Zagat Survey CEo and co-founder.
“Singapore Airlines gained altitude, sweeping the competition for the twentieth year in a row for both international economy and premium classes, [taking] the number one spot for [sub categories of] Food, Service and Comfort,” the survey adds.
The top five for best international economy start with Singapore, followed by Emirates Airline, Air New Zealand, Cathay Pacific Airways and Thai Airways in fifth.
While in the premium international sector list begins with Singapore and is then followed by Cathay Pacific Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Air New Zealand and with All Nippon Airways (ANA) in fifth.
Zagat Airline Survey takes responses from frequent travellers and travel professionals who this year averaged 16.3 flights a year, totalling 162,000 trips considered for the survey, 38% which were for leisure, 62% for business.
Within the United States Continental took out the first place in terms of a large premium class service while JetBlue took top honours for large economy class. Virgin America did well in the medium-sized operations category, taking out the top spot in premium and second in economy after Midwest.
In terms of booking flights, it appears that Americans are turning evermore to the web, the Zagat Survey finds.
“When booking air travel, 60% of surveyors use airline websites, while only 4% call the airline. Sites such as Expedia, Travelocity and the like are used by 18%, while 9% book through work and 8% use a travel agent,” the survey says.

Singapore Airlines Voted Asia’s Best

Good service, edible food and on-time departures were on a list of what business travelers in Asia like about air travel although the whole experience was voted as being less pleasant this year in a survey.
Half the passengers polled in Finance Asia magazine’s 2008 business travel survey said business travel was less pleasant this year, up from 48 percent in 2007.
The majority of respondents traveled first or business class, but with 60 percent facing shrinking travel budgets, over a third found themselves squeezed into economy class more often.
“The most frequent comment from our respondents was how much they appreciated the basics. On-time flights, free upgrades and edible food were passengers’ most common compliments,” said the survey, published in Finance Asia’s November issue.
“All airlines had their fair share of complaints. Delays, inattentive flight attendants, lost luggage, missed connections and turbulence topped this year’s list. Horror stories included spilled soup and food poisoning in business class.”
The magazine’s survey involved just over 450 respondents, the majority of whom traveled business or first class and spent at least 20 nights in a hotel this year. Voting ended in September.
The magazine said the drop in business and first class travel would have serious consequences for the travel industry globally, as well as in the Asia-Pacific, with the International Air Transport Association predicting regional airlines’ profitability will fall to $300 million this year, from $900 million in 2007.
Singapore Airlines was voted Asia’s best for business and first class travel, while Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok airport was chosen as the region’s top airport, with Singapore’s Changi coming in second.
Cathay Pacific airline’s Hong Kong airport lounges were picked as the best, the survey showed.
“Despite airline passenger service’s downward trajectory, respondents said they appreciated when airlines offered little courtesies — a power adaptor after arrival, showers and ground transport after delays, a box of chocolates for switching seats,” the magazine said.
For business accommodation, the Shangri-la was voted Asia’s best hotel chain, while the Mandarin Oriental in Bangkok was the top hotel, followed by Singapore’s Ritz-Carlton Millenia.
For those business travelers dreading the prospect of yet another flight, Finance Asia had the following advice: “Perhaps it’s best to resign yourself to the notion that travel (and life) is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get,” it said.

My favourite airlines is cash riched so we don't have to worry. Other airlines may go bust but not my darling. Since time memorial,SIA is clever at survival. Look at the SARs and the Asian financial crisis. SIA weathered the rough rides and emergered stronger and healthier.
My friend Boh Tong bought lots of SIA,according to his post and like him I have confidence in our beloved airline.

The latest financial crisis that hit the stock market so damn badly let me make a bundle these last few days. And best,I made my money mainly from selling short and at times going long on SIA shares. Selling short at $14.50 and covering at $13.40 was damn shiok and so with a dozen lots you may be able to guess how much I've made. No need to elaborate more but SIA is the love of my life,at least financially speaking.

Living The High Life

Teo lived the high life. He had seven private properties for which he paid about $6.5 million; a Mercedes-Benz C200 and BMW 728; jewellery and branded watches worth $1.85 million; an array of designer goods; and five-star hotel accommodation in Kuala Lumpur at least once a month.

CAD officers conducted numerous raids during the first three weeks of investigations and managed to recover about $14 million from various bank accounts, cash of about $780,000, the two cars, jewellery worth about $250,000, and the seven properties with an estimated value of about $10 million.

About $15 million was restituted to SIA by CAD. SIA subsequently went to court to challenge Teo's possession of the remaining assets acquired with the stolen proceeds, and he voluntarily gave up the properties and transferred their legal ownership to SIA.

SIA protects its young stewardess.

Just last week the airlines booted one of its long serving inflight supervisors for touching a new young flight stewardess's breast in the business class cabin. SIA consider the act as outraging the stewardess's modesty.
Good on you SIA for making present and future stewardesses feel safe from the buayas ( predators)who would from time to time take advantage of their positions.
Where did you hear other airlines firing its senior flight attedants for acts of "molest" against its female crew? Most airlines would just sweep everything under the carpets and let the female flight attendants fan for themselves. Perhaps,it ain't easy to fire the guilty senior male crew because of their strong unions. But in SIA, union or no union you will get the boot if you dare try to harass a female crew.

How am I not to love this great airlines? Qantas is cutting back 15,000 staff and other airlines are on the brink of brankruptcy but Singapore Airlines are recruiting cabin crew every month.It is also recruiting pilots, ground and management staff.
Greatest of all,SIA is paying out almost 6 months bonuses to all its staff this year.
Well done SIA cos not only you are a great way to fly but a super super company to work for.

6 Months Bonus and A380 flying to Beijing

I admire and love Singapore Airlines (SIA) for its impeccable records and caring atttiude towards its staff and passengers. Yet again SIA staff are getting almost 6 months bonuses this year.

There are people who wrongly pointed the finger at SIA and accused it of being too harsh to it's crew for blogging about their work. Show me one place where SIA ever sack it's crew for the above reason? No way man because SIA is a compassionate and understanding employer. Come on guys get your facts right. In fact, the post before this whereby the crew posted their photos on Facebook were being told not to repeat the mistake,thats all. The stewardess who blogged about her frustration with her passengers were mildly reprimanded. She now changed the name of her employer to Nameless Airline and so SIA left her alone.
Please have faith in our national carrier and keep flying with it. Hooray SIA!

SIA cabin crew interviews

Look at the number of Singapore Airlines cabin crew interviews. SIA conducts at least one such interview in Singapore every month and in Malaysia sometimes two.SIA also hold this recruitment exercise in Japan,Korea,China,India,Indonesia and Hong Kong.
Why so many such interviews or recruitment excercises of late? Is it because SIA is short of cabin crew or is it because it is expanding like mad or what?
Many said that one of the reasons is many crew left the airlines after receiving their 6 months bonus last December and the upcoming one in July 2008. I was told that SIA pays its staff the bonus in 2 stages,one in December and the other half in July. Any staff who leaves before payment dates would not be paid a cent. So it may be due to this that we see so many crew resigned after December and the coming July.

As a professional speaker, I often share stories and examples about companies that deliver great service. One company that's easy to talk about is Singapore Airlines.

Profitable every year since the beginning, Singapore Airlines (SIA) frequently wins international awards for top flight quality and service. Here's how they do it:

Clarity and Commitment. SIA's focus on service is completely clear. The mission statement and core values establish without question that quality service to customers is a fundamental objective and aspiration of the airline. Every major issue, question or decision can be considered through the prism of this commitment to providing world-class customer service.
Continuous Training. Training is not a "one time affair." SIA understands that daily customer contact can be draining, and that customer expectations are on the rise. Does all this mean that SIA is perfect? Of course not. Even SIA cannot satisfy every customer, every time. Bags go astray, telephone lines become congested, and meals at 39,000 feet are not always deluxe. There will always be room for improvement.
With a track record of success, SIA must work doubly hard to avoid becoming complacent. Managers must be open to change, not arrogant, high-handed or defensive. Staff must be proud of the airline yet remain eager for passenger suggestions, recommendations and constructive critique.

The definition of a truly loyal airline customer is someone who is pleased with the service, flies with the airline again and again, recommends the airline to others, and takes the time and effort to point out ways the airline can still improve.

NRT-SIN (T3) Economy. B747-400 a bit old but well maintained. Smiling and efficient crew and good food. The second leg, SIN-MAN Economy Boeing 777-200ER was more impressive. Although the flight was fully booked, this 14 hour flight was comfortable. Superb cabin attendants, good food, frequent drink services. Toilets kept tidy all the times. What I would like to point out is the design of seats on B777-200 is better than that of B747-400. While it seems both has footrests, IFE, headrests, the ones on 777 has a cap holder and holder for small items (such as glasses) beside the monitor. This will help us make the seat pocket thin, which is important for long distance flights. IFE is great, because it has AVOD, but because the choice of movies includes Indian, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, European and all with English subtitles. SIN-MAN route, there was a flight attendant very fluent in various Asian languages.

It is unfortunate that the A340-500 aircraft used for non stop flights to/from the US is soon to be reconfigured to accommodate Raffles Class only, as the extra space and fewer seats really did make these flights much more pleasant at an affordable price.

Paris-Sydney and Perth-Paris economy. Got seats I asked for at front of cabin. Singapore Sydney flight best ever I reckon - I and two fellow passengers treated royally and drink flowed. Being next to the galley and asking nicely probably helped. Inflight entertainment very good, very consistent service. For the money I paid, they were excellent. The stopover hotel offer is a great way to make the trip nicer and great value.

LHR-SIN on the first A380 on that route, and my first time on SQ in business. The A380 does live up to the hype. I don't think I found the SQ seat/bed to be any better or worse than BA/Virgin premium products. What was impressive was on-demand TV selection which seemed to work on SQ. Cabin crew service was good. Being offered a choice of coffees was also a nice touch. I don't think there are enough toilets for business class on the A380 - although the 2 at the rear are in theory just for business class, many economy passengers were using them. Also the taps/faucets in them are operated by waving your hand over a sensor which didn't seem to work readily whenever I tried. Also massively impressive was arriving into new terminal 3 at Singapore - from touch down to my hotel downtown by cab in 45 minutes! Bags came off amazingly quickly - just makes me want to cry thinking how different my experience at Heathrow will be in a few days time.

PER via SIN to FRA return economy. Booking online and arranging seat and meal reservation is easy. An annoying fact is that SIA and Lufthansa (which was my onward carrier out of FRA) although operating on the same alliance are not able to issue boarding passes of each other. Which meant queuing up in Frankfurt for another boarding pass after 20 hours on the go. Inflight service was brilliant. I found the new KrisWorld entertainment programme on the Boeing 777-300ER very impressing. A big screen, fast menu, no troubles with movies or audio programmes. The seat pitch is great. The food was good and plentiful, service friendly and quick. Another positive note is the brand new Terminal 3 in Changi Airport. It is a great place to spend even some more hours in between the flights. This is like an airport should be like: an enjoyable and relaxed place with easy-to- find access to everything.

SYD-SIN-LHR. The A380 actually lived up to the marketing hype. The new seats are very spacious and you can actually stretch out. Even though I am quite tall and you have to sleep at an angle, I slept well on my side and my back. SpaceBeds on B747-400 to London were still good and seem well maintained despite the age. Service impeccable, personable, friendly but not intrusive. Catering was great.

Singapore Airlines is so generous to its staff. Last year SIA gave 6 months bonus to all its staff here and overseas. No airlines have awarded its staff that type of bonuses. Carry on the good work my love (SIA) and the heavens will richly bless you.
When the SQ 006 crashed, SIA offered the next of kins of the dead cabin crew a whopping S$700,000 each when the collective agreement was only $75,000.
Where to get this type of employer. Besides, the next of kins also get free travel.
Come on SIA, you are a great way to fly....always will be!

"Slapping" case settled

Finally to the relief of SIA,the slapping of the stewardess case by a female passenger is settled out of court. Max the pax would pay I was told was 65k and I don't think the fss got anywhere close to 65k. Maybe 10k? Ya it is a more realistic figure.
Understand SIA helped to fork out some of the earlier legal bills for the stewardess. Good on you my beloved SIA and well done to a case that's well handled!
Move on now and concentrate on putting more biz class seats on the long haul flights.I know there is a lot of hoo haas now going on about the biz seats. Some economy paxs are crying out against my beloved SIA because they would have to pay biz class fare instead of economy fare when flying non stop to LA or NYC.
Who really cares right as long as my national carrier makes money and plenty of it.

I'm giabat, just came back from Australia.

I flighted with Singapore Airlines, really the BEST airline I have ever flight with.

On the fligth from Australia to Singapore the plane was not so full and we had the possibility to have some little talk with the crews.

I was talking with a stewardess, she was so pretty and absolutely serious with her job.

We talked for some mins and when arrived to Singapore I would give to her my email address just to have little email correspondence but I could not do it cause she was little bit busy.

So please, if you can do something about (e.g find her, etc.), I have any flight details and even her name.

Everyday i travel 3 bus-stops away fm home wif my 3 boys.P1,P4,9mths old.
But i am lucky. Most of the a'noons, the same driver greeted us wif a nod. I too shove my small 3pound pram up the bus. No hassle at all.
After sch starts, we stroll n walk home slowly. If it rain, we will take a cab, but only a last resort, too pricey. Most SAHM will understand.
No wonder. How to boost our fertility rate wif such drivers around??

I think the bus capt. was thinking of the emergengy aspect. U have a pram,a baby and another child and that's a loadful. Do u ever think if the bus catches fire or in an emergency situation U all are going to be obstacles to an evacuation.
Think before complaining and whinning and be reasonable. This bus capt. is merely earning a living so why make life difficult for him?

However, permit me to explain the comment was made in response to a question concerning proceedings before the courts.Singapore Airlines abides strictly by the sub-judice convention; that is, we do not publicly discuss matters before the courts, in particular when the Airline is not, formally, a party to the case.However, in general terms, let me put firmly on record that Singapore Airlines adopts a zero tolerance approach to assaults on our staff in the course of their duty. Where an allegation is made, the Airline will support a decision by the staff member to refer the complaint to police (noting it is a personal decision as to whether they do so), and we will also provide reasonable support to staff to seek other remedies in the event a prosecution cannot be made.We do have established policies in place to support affected staff, which were developed jointly with our staff unions. The one thing I will say about this particular case is that these policies were followed in full. I am sorry that some readers may have drawn an alternative view from our need to abide by the sub-judice convention.However, I hope also that I have clarified some of the conclusions that various forum participants have erroneously come to about how Singapore Airlines deals with such cases.

SIA apologises for unpleasant incident

I REFER to the letter, 'SIA should have shown more understanding' (ST, Feb9), by Mr Law Cher Khiam. We have apologised to Mr Law for the unpleasant incident.
Our ground staff in Jakarta should have just accepted Mr Law's redemption ticket at face value for travel on the next flight to Singapore, given the flood situation.
Normally, customers holding redemption tickets are allowed to change their flight or date of travel as long as the change is made during the validity period, and on the same route. However, there is a cancellation fee of US$75, or 7,500 KrisFlyer frequent-flier miles, in the event of a change.
In Mr Law's case, he did not have enough KrisFlyer miles to pay for the cancellation fee. So he bought a new ticket which was for a return Jakarta- Singapore-Jakarta trip, not one-way Jakarta-Singapore. We will refund the additional collection he was charged versus the usual fare he would have paid for a return ticket.
As a practice, we do waive cancellation fee for customers who have to change flights due to extraordinary circumstances like bad weather, which are beyond their control.
Regarding the matter of crew rest, there are universally established mandatory minimum rest hours for air crew due to safety reasons before they can re-operate a flight. For short-haul routes, our crew do operate the turnaround on the same route or in combination with other routes to maximise the duty time allowable.

Shocked by behaviour of SQ leading stewardess

MY PARENTS and I were on flight SQ865 on Jan 13, from Hong Kong to Singapore.
The Leading Stewardess was giving out The Straits Times and I requested a copy. I also asked her politely to pass another set of newspapers to my father, who was seated in another row.
To my surprise, she told me loudly to share the newspapers since we are one family and that there were still many other passengers waiting to get a copy. Can you imagine how embarrassing it was for me?
How would the other passengers think - that I was greedy? I was just helping my parents as they were seated elsewhere and could not speak English.
She could have said something along the line of "I'm sorry Madam, but can you please share if you don't mind as we are running out of newspapers".
I was stunned by her rudeness and could only manage a reply of "Okay".
Singapore Airlines is supposed to be well-known for its good service, but why was I given that kind of treatment?
Was it because I was seated in the Economy class?

SIA says sorry for cabin crew's behaviour

I REFER to the letter by Ms Tan Ai Ching, Serene (my paper, Jan 23).
We apologise for Ms Tan's unpleasant experience. We have looked into this issue following her feedback.
Demand for The Straits Times was higher than usual during Ms Tan's flight, and our crew, therefore, asked customers who were travelling together to share copies.
We have stressed the need for our cabin crew staff to be mindful of the manner in which they communicate with our customers.
I would like to assure Ms Tan that no offence was meant.
